The Main Process (Step 1–9)
Step 1: Prepare Documents
The applicant prepares all necessary legal documents and the trademark artwork according to DIP standards.
Step 2: Submit a Request
The application is officially filed. This initial submission process typically takes 1 day.
Step 3: Review and Consider
The Registrar performs a comprehensive examination. This stage is divided into two phases:
- Reviewing: Approximately 6 months.
- Considering: Approximately 5 months.
Step 4: Accept
If the application meets all legal requirements and distinctiveness criteria, the Registrar issues an official “Acceptance.”
Step 5: Announcement (60 days)
The trademark is published in the Trademark Gazette for a 60-day period to allow for public inspection and potential objections.
Step 6: No Objection
If no third-party objections are filed within the 60-day window, the process moves forward. It takes approximately 15 days to confirm this status.
Step 7: Issue Payment (Fee)
The DIP issues a notification for the registration fee payment. This administrative step takes about 30 days.
Step 8: Make Payment
The applicant completes the registration fee payment to finalize the legal protection of the mark.
Step 9: Release the License Document
Once payment is verified, the official Certificate of Registration (License) is issued. This final step takes approximately 15 days.
